Have you ever found yourself in a season of waiting? Perhaps you’re waiting for a new job, healing from an illness, or an answer to a long-term prayer. Waiting can be one of the most challenging aspects of life, filling us with feelings of uncertainty and restlessness. Yet, it is in these moments of pause that our faith can grow exponentially.
In yesterday’s reading, David said he waited patiently on the Lord. But how did he actually accomplish this? Did he sit around and twiddle his thumbs until he recognized God’s work? Or did he do something while he waited? And how can we best emulate the “man after [God’s] own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14)?
It might seem counterintuitive, but waiting often involves action. The pause sometimes feels quite long, especially if you’re waiting for an answer before moving forward. But there are things both we and the Lord can actively accomplish in the interim.
For our part, we should talk to God through prayer about our concerns, dreams, and desires. In the stillness and tension of waiting, we must also read His Word diligently to learn more about His character and love. While we seek the answers, care, and encouragement we need from Him, we develop patience and grow as our faith is strengthened and stretched.
“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.” – Psalm 40:2-3
During this time of actively waiting, we begin to see what God does. Like David, we will be lifted from a pit, given a firm place to stand, and receive a new song to sing. Yes, waiting is so much more than merely pausing it allows us to experience God in a deeper and more personal way.
Imagine waiting not as a passive state but as an active, dynamic period of preparation. Picture it as a seed underground, waiting for the perfect conditions to sprout into a strong and healthy plant. Faith, much like that seed, requires nurturing through prayer, scripture, and trust in God’s timing.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being with us in every season of our lives, especially in the periods of waiting. Help us to be patient and to trust in Your perfect timing. May we use this time to grow closer to You through prayer and study of Your Word. Lift us from our pits of despair and place a new song in our hearts. We trust that You are working even when we cannot see it. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Welcome to a special place where we think about God as the day ends. We believe every evening is a chance to think about our day and be thankful. Our goal is to give you a calm place to feel close to God.
At Sacred Evenings, we are a group of people who love to share the beauty of quiet moments with God. We have stories, devotional, short prayers, and thoughts that help you think about God. We want you to feel the magic of every evening.
Our journey is based on the Bible verse, “Be still, and know that I am God…” (Psalm 46:10). We invite you to stop, breathe, and find God as the day ends. When the sun goes down and it gets quiet, we believe these evenings are a gift. They remind us of God’s love and invite us to be closer to Him.
Join us on this journey of faith and thinking deeply. Whether you need help, comfort, or a quiet moment, you are welcome here. Let’s enjoy these special evenings together, as we get closer to God and each other.
